Carnivorous Plants!

It's a short video of a mouse being eaten by a carnivorous plant called the Nepenthes.
Carnivorous plants have leaves which are adapted to be used as traps , hence , it's less efficient at photosynthesis. They also require glands, hairs, glue and digestive enzymes to trap and digest the food, hence , the plant requires more ATP and have increased respiration(resulting in decreased photosynthesis) to provide the energy needed.

  1. I need to understand:It can be growing under nutrientless soil too and the mouse would give the
    extra nutrients its missing.

  2. It is unable to grow in nutrient-less soil as being carnivorous does not provide all the nutrients it need. This is especially crucial as it has a decreased photosynthesis rate.
