The steps of photophosphorylation

Photophosphorylation means making ATP using the energy from light .Although this process and the making of ATP during cellular respiration are similar ,the processes also have several differences .In particular ,the sources of energy and electrons for photosynthesis are different than they are for respiration .In photosynthesis ,light provides the energy ,and water provides the electrons. In cellular respiration ,both the energy and the electrons come form food molecules .

  1. i need to know: What do you all mean by saying that in cellular resipiration, both the energy and the electrons come from food molecules?

  2. In oxidative phosphorylation, the electrons removed from food molecules in pathways such as the citric acid cycle are transferred to oxygen and the energy released is used to make ATP. This is done in eukaryotes by a series of proteins in the membranes of mitochondria called the electron transport chain. In prokaryotes, these proteins are found in the cell's inner membrane. These proteins use the energy released from passing electrons from reduced molecules like NADH onto oxygen to pump protons across a membrane.
